Leroy Moore Reminded Me of My Epic Gratitude for Black Disabled Women’s Warnings

A yellow CAUTION tape is seen outside.

In March 2024, I facilitated a virtual workshop on Movement Grief, as part of my Navigating Grief in BIPOC Solidarity series. Had it not been for a discussion prompted by a Black disabled femme participant sharing warnings from Dr. Sami Schalk and Vilissa Thompson about Leroy Moore's toxicity towards Black disabled women, I may never have known of his problematic pattern:

Last Thursday, I noticed a comment from Leroy Moore on my newsletter post on Facebook, which made me wonder if he had taken any responsibility for his actions following those statements about his toxicity, and based on his replies after my request that he not engage with my posts, we can guess the answer:

As discussed in my April newsletter post, the patriarchy continues to harm us all when men fail to reckon with their complicity in our oppression, and Leroy Moore's replies prove why Dr. Sami Schalk and Vilissa Thompson warned us about how he fails to practice any semblance of Disability Justice in how he has repeatedly mistreated multiple Black disabled women for over a decade.

Especially as a fellow survivor of gender-based violence at the hands of men who cosplay as equity practitioners, Leroy Moore's comments made me reflect on how those warnings from Dr. Sami Schalk and Vilissa Thompson about him gave me permission to submit art about the toxicity I had experienced from a local Black disabled man who claimed to practice Disability Justice, while subjecting me to abhorrent Access Hostility during a  contract."

- Krystal Kavita Jagoo, MSW.

Until then, I had always feared that I was doing the work of white supremacy if I critiqued the harms of Black, Indigenous, or racialized folx publicly, but such violations over decades have traumatized me to the point of endangering my life, as I attempt to recover from $183,364+ in financial abuse at the hands of my ex, Makai Livingstone, as detailed in my Access Intimacy Abuse webpage

Disabled folx have an extremely long history of issuing warnings that tend to be dismissed by ableism cosplaying as sound judgment by folx in leadership roles."

- Krystal Kavita Jagoo, MSW.

For instance, many have likely trusted Ijeoma Oluo enough to support her book, Be a Revolution, despite concerted efforts from Talila A. Lewis, Dr. Sami Schalk, Alice Wong, and other disabled folx to illuminate her unethical actions:

How about Tiffany Yu's The Anti-Ableist Manifesto: Smashing Stereotypes, Forging Change, and Building a Disability-Inclusive World? Even from its title, "The False Radicalism of Corporate Disability Literature: Liz Jackson on the Irreconcilable Hypocrises of Corporate “Anti-Ableism”," the author tries to warn her readers, yet I fear that far too many have failed to pay enough attention.

Yu’s choice of title plainly seeks to place her book alongside one of the world’s most influential political documents, the now mononymous Manifesto. Instead of promoting a new idea, as Marx and Engels did in The Communist Manifesto, Yu instead employed questionable methods to extract content from lesser resourced activists, as filler for the dearth of original thought. And because “the history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles,” Yu has warped the ideas of disabled radicals to glorify the potential of corporate overlords to save disabled people by “including” us, without any critical acknowledgment that corporate practices are a root cause of disabled suffering."

- Liz Jackson

Talila A. Lewis also warned us about Yu's book in this Facebook post from 2025:

Let me remind folks that in the age of A.I./disinformation/the decline of publishing empires, if you plan to add your name as a reviewer to "published products," you need to be asking *a lot* more questions about consent, accuracy, methodology, and much, much, much more. You should also be reading/watching/listening to whatever it is in full quite critically and making your own review thereafter.

Some of you who I respect "reviewed" yet another 2024 "book" that harvest/extracts/distorts/misrepresents my and other hyper-marginalized anti-capitalists, anti-imperialists bodiesminds work.

Yet again, they did not get my name correct; I am misquoted (once as a white woman...smdh); no one bothered to let me know--much less, asked my consent/offered opportunity to edit--some other person/program's rendition of my heartwork (that I offer in very precise ways and make no money from intentionally) that would be relied on in a "book" that was globally published by yet another of the Big Five consumer trade publishers. The book was "written" by an influencer in the span of a couple of months and misrepresents, neutralizes, commodifies, corporatizes, deradicalizes *decades* of my and others' heartwork, bodymind, mis/name, etc. while claiming to do the opposite.

Yet again, others were contacted and were given opportunities to know that they would appear in and had an opportunity to edit, so, this was not accidental.

This time, it's the "The Anti-Ablesim Manifesto" (Legacy Lit an imprint of Hachette Book Group).

This is digital+literary blackface & noircraticide.*

This type of harvesting, extraction, distortion is settler-colonial, violent, ableist, racist, anti-Black, classist, sanist, etc.; and a form of labor exploitation, enfreakment/enslavement/incarceration, among a great many other things.

That marginalized people (oft "mixed/model minorities") are being used as the face of these "products" only makes it worse.

I-We deserve better. This hurts all of us. We are all responsible for one another. Please do better. THIS IS ANCESTRALLY+EPISTEMOLOGICALLY VIOLENT.

*NB: If you see/hear/etc my alleged name words and/or heartwork in/on anything, please contact me and let me know. There is an ongoing attempt to smear, discredit, neutralize me and my work and you all are helping the powers that be do it.*

You all can be upset with me for continuing to call out these influencers/publishers; and I will continue naming this violence for exactly what it is until this stops and/or until folks hear it enough that yall start practicing discernment and stop supporting and putting your names/reputations behind this kind of sludge.

Disabled/"black"/mixed faces in publishing places wont save us.

The influencers and publishers engaged in this racist eugenicist extractive capitalism are engaged in manifest hypocrisy, no manifesto about it (and nothing revolutionary/ abolitionist about the HarperCollins violence either).

That's all for now. Thank you.

[...I have received notes from other Black disabled people whose words/work are attributed to others in this text.

Please be on guard. Please practice extreme discernment. As Professor Ruha Benjamin reminds: "Just because it's published doesn't make it true/accurate."]"

- Talila A. Lewis

Had it not been for those warnings from Dr. Sami Schalk and Vilissa Thompson about Leroy Moore's toxicity in 2024, I would have been at much greater risk of internalizing my ex's Access Intimacy Abuse as a failure of myself, given how rampant victim-blaming can be regarding gender-based violence."

- Krystal Kavita Jagoo, MSW.

Especially for disabled folx who are also marginalized in multiple other ways, issuing warnings about those who have harmed us can literally endanger our very existence in a society in which victim-blaming remains a daily reality.

Who is doing what kinds of labor, how much, for how long, and how do these facts map onto gender, race, and other instances of difference and power, often in unacknowledged ways? For example, are female socialized or fem-identified people carrying the bulk of the emotional labor of the organizing?"

- Sins Invalid

A decade ago, when served with a disciplinary letter that stated I "had been hired to practice social work, not social justice," by a white supremacist Executive Director at my therapist job at a family health team in Port Perry, I did not imagine that my commitment to anti-oppressive practice could have disabled me to the point of considering a medically assisted death in 2026.

While still here, I need to highlight how our warnings are attempts at harm reduction, despite how often they escalate the retaliation we face, so please amplify our voices and support our work as disabled folx are at disproportionately higher risk of becoming ancestors sooner rather than later due to ableism."

- Krystal Kavita Jagoo, MSW.

An original Caitlin Cull illustration of my public art idea of a store window with mirrors in various shapes and sizes is seen, over which, black text states, ""The very act of trying to look ahead to discern possibilities and offer warnings is an act of hope." - Octavia E. Butler" to symbolize how the future will reflect our present actions.

Here we are, disabled oracles since the beginning of time, warning society and telling our truths, being completely sidelined...This is nothing new or unique. Throughout history, marginalized, troublesome, or undesirable people were not believed or taken seriously. We elicit discomfort and disrupt people's binary ideas of normalcy. Our warnings have been silenced in order to uphold the status quo. Even when we make persuasive arguments, we are not at the center, despite our extensive scholarship and wisdom."

- Alice Wong

As mentioned earlier, I am facilitating a virtual Pay-What-You-Can Taking Alice Wong's Advice for Disability Pride workshop at 7-9pm EST on Saturday, July 25, 2026, so I hope that readers will consider joining us virtually then:

Depending on when you read this, I may have already resorted to a medically assisted death given my inability to survive Makai Livingstone's Access Intimacy Abuse, so if able to help me avoid that outcome, please do so below.

If able to contribute to my survival following my ex's financial abuse of at least $183,364, which further disabled me, alongside white supremacist workplace trauma, e-transfers within "Canada" may be sent to krystaljagoo@gmail.com and funds may be sent via PayPal below, so please consider supporting me!🙏🏾

BTW, on the off chance that you are looking for a gifted equity practitioner and educator for virtual services like writing, facilitation, and consulting, you are welcome to peruse my CV below, and explore paid services here.

Please consider sharing this newsletter to amplify the reach of my work!🙏🏾
