Will You Please Invest (More) in Disability Justice Work to Operationalize Suicide Prevention?
Since relaunching my newsletter on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, I have published it weekly to introduce readers to Disability Justice. Unfortunately, the uphill battle of keeping myself alive since exhausting my retirement savings to survive $183,364+ in financial abuse may have reached my breaking point. I may not be functional enough to write about this coherently, but if I cannot state that in a newsletter with writing grounded in Disability Justice, then I have fallen prey to the internalized ableism that keeps many from taking action.
Some know that I have long started my day by amplifying mutual aid posts on Bluesky, most of whom tend to be from Palestinians attempting to survive ongoing intensified genocide, but upon exhausting my retirement savings, I have been attempting to stay housed, fed, etc., with mutual aid myself, while still applying for paid work, but I may not have it in me to keep trying for long."
It has been 2 months since I have been able to afford to see the chiropractor, and 3 weeks since running out of the medication that has helped to manage PCOS/PMOS for decades, which has resulted in the worst migraines and back pain in all my life, which has been debilitating, especially when combined with severe housing precarity, food insecurity, disordered eating challenges, etc.
Having desperately reached out to the sister that I raised for a decade for financial assistance to remain housed at the end of July, despite her betrayal 15 years ago, it has been a few demoralizing weeks of not hearing from her."
Admittedly, the father who 1st abandoned me in a NICU incubator in Trinidad believes that I am just being stubborn by insisting that I cannot bring myself to call his ex-wife, who claims to be willing to provide much-needed financial help, but Ava has taken no responsibility for any violations of me, so I have no trust that subjecting myself to her power trip would keep me housed, but absolute certainty that my crumbling executive functioning would not be well served by betraying myself to a mother who acts like fish that eat their young.
I strongly suspect that fellow trauma survivors are more likely to understand my stance than others, but I cannot stomach calling the 1st person to jeopardize my housing while I was recovering from a car crash by weaponizing my queerness against me, for which she has yet to apologize or take any remote responsibility, despite the decades that continue to pass!🥹"
Especially if you have read my Mother’s Day Reflections from A Grandmothered Femme Who Chose Death Over Calling Ava newsletter post, you may be wondering what kind of a parent would subject a disabled GBV trauma survivor to an outcome worse than death, after failing her firstborn daughter repeatedly for decades, and the answer is one who has learnt nothing since she offered $5,000 to talk to her after learning I was applying to grad school in 2008, when that would not even cover a single semester! 👀
During Suicide Prevention Month, this past mental health therapist needs to highlight how a commitment to the Disability Justice framework is crucial for operationalizing suicide prevention by working towards equitable material conditions that facilitate quality of life for disabled folx, especially those who are also BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, or otherwise marginalized."
If still unfamiliar with the 10 Disability Justice principles, they are outlined below:
If you are new(er) to thinking critically about how to operationalize suicide prevention beyond sharing a phone number to call if at risk to oneself, it looks like robust investments in abolition, harm reduction, mutual aid, etc., all of which are aligned with the Disability Justice framework."
As I try to navigate the 2nd month in which I have been unable to pay the necessary $1775.89 to stay housed, despite exhausting my retirement savings after suffering at least $183,364 in financial abuse, if you are able to support me, I would be grateful for any monetary contributions!🙏🏾"
If able to contribute to my survival following my ex's financial abuse of at least $183,364, which further disabled me, alongside white supremacist workplace trauma, e-transfers within "Canada" may be sent to krystaljagoo@gmail.com and funds may be sent via PayPal below, so please support me if able, as I am desperately close to being unhoused!🙏🏾
BTW, on the off chance that you are looking for a gifted equity practitioner and educator for virtual services like writing, facilitation, and consulting, you are welcome to peruse my CV below, and explore paid services here.
Please consider sharing this newsletter to amplify the reach of my work!🙏🏾
